In my earlier post, I mention that we should make full use of discount coupon/ code. Unfortunately, as of this moment, there isn’t any for Chris Pearson Thesis theme for wordpress. Kind of makes me wonder why is there still a coupon code text box.
However all is not lost. Being such a popular theme, there are several sites that offer you a ‘discount’ or freebies (usually E-books) if you buy through them. In fact, some of them are created specifically just to sell the Thesis theme. It ain’t hard to guess how they can profit from it. As an affiliate, you will make 33% commissions or $28.71 and $54.12 for a personal and developer option respectively from each sale. Most affiliate sites offer you a $15 (personal) or $30 (developer) discount. This works out to a profit of about $13/ $24. Not bad eh.
This is what I call a win win situation. As a buyer, I get to enjoy a discount while the seller gets to pocket some commission. If you are thinking to become both the buyer and seller i.e. become an affiliate and then buying from yourself, think again. There is usually a minimum cap before there is a pay out, much like Google Adsense. Which means you will probably have to make a sale transaction of at least two or more times to be eligible for a payout.
Here’s a quick review of a few sites that offers a discount for Thesis theme.
Thesis Theme Coupon
$10/$20 discount. A fairly simple to navigate site and the comments posted are quite current. Comments are important to me because while some may not be entirely true, it is probably the best way to gauge the product or service. However, the discount is not attractive. Some sites are already offering $15/$30 discount.
DIY themes Thesis Coupon Code 2009
$15/$30 discount. As mention earlier, comments are important to me and the comment function in this site is closed. I wonder why.
$15/$30 discount. A very detailed set of instructions on how you should go about in making sure that you will earn the discount. This site is not dedicated to selling Thesis theme and I would believe this affiliate service is started only recently. A very positive sign is that there is a good exchange with the Admin in the comments section.
$20 discount. I’m not sure if it is for personal or developer. If it applies for the personal option as well, this will make it the highest discount so far. However, you will have to contact the author to find out more. Comments are also closed.
An example of a site offering goodies (E-books) instead of a cash discount. The two E-books are “The Wordpress SEO Ebook” and “How To Make The Thesis Theme Into a Review Site”. For some, it might be worth more that the $15 or $30 discount.
I will be purchasing the Thesis theme via Letters & Science because of the positive comments and will update the outcome here.
Anyone has experience with the sites listed above or any other similar sites to share?
Update
Sunday 11 Oct’09, 9:16am (GMT +8:00)
Ordered the Thesis theme via Letters & Science affiliate link and received the order confirmation from paypal and Thesis.
Sunday 11 Oct’09, 9:50am (GMT +8:00)
Received an email confirmation from Letters & Science. The actual time received was at 9:23am but spent a good 10-20 minutes waiting for the mail before realizing that Gmail has treated the mail as spam. I will be highlighting this back to them.
Sunday 11 Oct’09, 10:16am (GMT +8:00)
Received a second confirmation from Letters & Science with my sale details. I will have to wait approximately 30days (after the 30days money back period) to receive my rebate.
Tuesday 17 Nov’09, 10:06pm (GMT +8:00)
Got my $15 rebate. In fact I got it much earlier on 10 Nov (based on the paypal records) but surprising I did not receive any email. Even comments left in my blog was marked as scam which I deleted off. It was only after I have sent a email to Letters & Science did they inform me that the rebate was already credited to my paypal.
Overall, a very pleasant experience with Letters & Science. The only slight glitch is their mails are frequently marked as scam in my Gmail. Not sure why though, probably because it is automated?

Thanks for the nice review and helpful feedback.
Hi Derek,
I sent you an e-mail this morning. You may need to check your spam folder again. The PayPal notification last week might also have been categorized as spam.
Hi Claire,
I couldn’t find any related mails in my spam folder but I have checked my paypal account and the rebate is credited.
Thank you.
